About Our Practice
Chestnut Hill Pediatrics was founded in 1980 by Dr. Patricio Vives. Since then the practice has grown to include three experienced physicians and three nurse practitioners who work together closely as a team.
We base our recommendations on the best scientific evidence and medical guidelines. We value continuity of care and make every effort to ensure you will see your primary care provider for visits. If your pediatrician is not available, you will meet with one of our other pediatricians or pediatric nurse practitioners.
In 2010, we adopted the Medical Home model of care. The American Academy of Pediatrics has defined the Medical Home as accessible, continuous, comprehensive, family-centered, well-coordinated, and compassionate care. Our medical home care coordinator (MHCC) leads our efforts to continually improve our patients' experience and the quality of care we deliver. As a result, we are better able to connect patients with external resources such as mental health providers and subspecialists and assist families in obtaining insurance coverage for medications, supplies and medical equipment.
If your child has special health care needs, you may contact our MHCC at 617-277-2541 for assistance in coordinating your child's care. Among other tasks, she can help you schedule visits with specialists and find community-based organizations or resources that will be beneficial to you or your child.
Our office is open for scheduled appointments Monday through Friday, from 9:00am- 4:45pm. We have evening hours (by appointment only) on Wednesdays and Thursdays until 7pm. We also offer a sick visit walk-in hour, Monday-Friday, 9 am-10 am. No scheduled appointments are necessary during this hour. The sick visit walk-in hour is for acute health concerns, such as a sore throat, ear infection or a fever. Ongoing health issues, such as chronic headaches or abdominal pain, should be addressed during a scheduled appointment, so that more time is available.
After Hours, Weekends and Holidays
When the office is closed, the answering service can page the on-call physician 24 hours per day, seven days per week for urgent matters. Please call our regular phone number 617-277-2541. You should expect a callback within 30 minutes. If you do not hear from us within 30 minutes, please page again. Chestnut Hill Pediatrics shares after-hours coverage with 4 other local pediatricians. For non-urgent matters, please call during normal office hours, Monday through Friday, from 9:00 am - 5:00 pm.
Sick visits are available at our office or with a provider in our coverage group in the mornings on Saturday, Sunday, and all holidays. If you would like to schedule a sick visit, please call 617-277-2541, preferably between 9-11am. Our coverage team is also available to answer questions after hours for urgent matters --- please call our main number to have the on-call provider paged.
Well Child Visits: Appointments may be scheduled up to one year in advance. Well visits can usually be scheduled within 4 weeks, however early morning and after school well visits are popular and fill early. Please call to schedule well in advance or log-in to the Patient Portal to request a visit.
Sick Visits: We routinely keep appointments open for urgent, same day visits. We make every effort to schedule your sick visit the same day, with your child’s primary care clinician. Please call as early as possible for same-day sick visits. Non-urgent appointments (follow up, chronic illness) will be scheduled as determined to be appropriate and generally within 1 week.
Prescription requests should be called-in to 617-277-2541 or requested via the Patient Portal during regular office hours Monday to Friday. Please allow 72 hours for refills of medications. Please do not request routine prescription refills during evenings or weekends.
We accept most forms of health insurance. Please call to confirm that we accept your plan. We update insurance information at each visit. We can help to identify resources for families without insurance.
